Hans Arnold

Picture
I have come to realize that Hans Arnold, truly, has been my first contact with art. Not until I got to know about him for real, I found out that he had illustrated on of my childhoods favorite short films. “Mathulda och Megasen”, which is the name of the film, is a story about a witch and her “dog like” pet. Together with a little boy and a girl, they go for a journey amongst magical people.

During my later years in school, I visited an exhibition in Old town, Stockholm. Here I had the pleasure to meet Hans Arnold in real life, shake his hand, and receiving a signed postcard.

Hans Arnold is best known for his imaginary illustrations, posted in magazines and books. One of his most recognized works, is the cover of the 1975 “Swedish version of Abbas greatest hits” album. His paintings and illustrations reveals his incredible imagination. There is fairy's, monsters and naked women in the shape of angels or devils. There is a sensual undertone combined with a child's imagination. It is this combination that makes him so fascinating.

Just recently I bought a lithography that I found in a secondhand shop. The picture is 40x50 cm and in great shape. It´s named “Oh, when the saints go marching in” number 3 of 150.

Obviously I am extremely proud of this one.
